update

I want to take this opportunity to thank all of my customers for their incredible  patience and understanding while waiting for their orders to be delivered. When I first embarked on my holster making business some 30 or so years ago I never envisioned that it would reach the point where it is today. I’m extremely grateful to you all for selecting my holsters as your choice of carry.  I apologize that the current waiting  period is 12 weeks but I want to inform every one that I have taken steps to start whittling down that time frame to an acceptable level. I just recently hired my first employee four weeks ago and expect to make some serious headway on the back orders in short order. If anyone has any questions regarding their order, please contact me anytime of day. Time permitting,  I will do my utmost best to return your call or answer your e mail as promptly as I can.

All the best,

Robert Mika

question of ccw

Being that there are so many opinions out there on the question of whether or not one should be able to carry a concealed firearm, I thought I would toss in my thoughts. It is simply a question of “just in case”, by that I mean we all take certain preventative measures to protect ourself, our loved ones, our possessions. We have house insurance, car insurance, life insurance, health insurance, etc. “just in case”. Being responsible law abiding citizens we all have the right to employ measures that can “insure” our personal safety; no person or organization has the right to say otherwise. In todays world CCW is a option that can provide someone peace of mind for that ” just in case” scenario.

Feedback

Since my new updated website has been up and running for a while, I thought you would all like to know that the feedback has been very positive. I want to take this opportunity to extend my thanks to all of you who have visited the site and offered your opinions or completed a purchase. Most of all I would like to thank my son, Peter Mika,  and Brian Jessee for all their hard work in creating this new website.  Without their help this website would have never come about and for that I’m extremely grateful..

Cordially,

pocket holster-round or square cut

For my pocket holsters, I offer both a round and square cut version. I do so because simply not all pockets are created equal. Some are small, short, deep, shallow, etc. and that presents a problem sometimes if a customer is offered only one style of cut for their holster. Let’s  take a SW J Frame for example. If you are wearing jeans or slacks, a round cut would work best . If you are wearing pants that have large cargo size pockets or a jacket with big pockets, then a square cut would work well.  If one is carrying a small auto like a Ruger LCP or a Beretta 21A, then square cut should be considered for most but not all situations. It should also be pointed out that what makes my pocket holsters different from most others is that they do not require a “thumb push off” to extract the firearm from the holster.  I’m an advocate of “less is more”.  The less steps one has to perform while under stress to extract the firearm from the holster, the better off you will be.

Cordially,

Pockets too short?

There are times that I hear from some of my ccw customers that their holsters containing their firearm of choice dose not sit down deep enough in their pockets. I understand completely! Many times  I find that pants  pockets are very shallow indeed and wonder if it is a cost saving measure in the clothing manufacturing industry to make them as short as possible.  I have made the following suggestion to others  as a possible remedy and want to pass it on to everyone. Just lengthen your pockets by two or three inches. Problem solved! It cost very little to have them lengthened and one will be happy that holstered weapon sits deeper in the pocket. On another note, if anyone would like to ask me any questions related to CCW I would be more than happy to answer them on this blog.

Revolver or High Capacity Auto

This question has been posed to me a number of times from my customers throughout the years. There have been a lot of opinions expressed  regarding this subject and I thought I would toss my hat in the ring for what is it worth. When I first became a officer for the City of Los Angeles back in 1973, we were issued a 38 caliber  K frame revolver, and a wooden night stick. Add to that twelve extra rounds and that was it. No pepper spray or taser and or hand held radios. Fast forward to now and you will find an array of tools available to law enforcement and civilians that offer more choices on how to react in volatile situations. One upgrade, namely the high capacity auto handgun such as the Beretta 92 have allowed a officer or citizen  a leg up so to speak in dealing in situations involving the use of deadly force. However, the carrying of a  high capacity auto handgun comes with a price. My opinion is that it can give   a individual  sense of inflated confidence. Although the thought that more is better, sometimes that is a hinderance in employing good tactics. When we had only revolvers, we knew we had only six rounds before we had to reload so therefore we had to have acute  awareness of our surroundings, i.e. cover.  Unnecessarily placing ones  self in the open was a no-no tactically and doing so  meant a high possibility of being seriously injury or death. The point I’m alluding to is that although high capacity autos are a great tool to have for self defense, please be aware of the feeling of  over confidence as all it takes is one bullet coming your way to wreck your day no matter if you are carrying a flintlock pistol or a machine gun.

What firearm should I carry for self defense

Often I get this question from customers who are new to CCW.   In my opinion, there is no right or wrong answer. It boils down to this. Whatever firearm feels comfortable in the hand is the one you go with. Too often I hear people say, is a certain caliber handgun  adequete for self defense? My answer is anytime you put a metallic object regardless of size  into a human being at a high velocity the results are going to have a adverse impact on  that individual. In there any caliber of handgun that will stop a assailiant immediately? Sure, maybe a  155 howitzer , but who is going to carry a cannon in their pocket. Not to say that bigger isn’t  better, but rather one’s ability to shoot accurately is better. So, if you are thinking of carrying a firearm for the first time for self defense, my advice is to go down to your local indoor gun range and shoot a variety of handguns and see what feels best in the grip of your hand and shoots best. That is the one you should go with.
